Sven Jense (1976) is driven by social issues, mostly relating to human suffering and the relationship with 'the Other'. In theatre he explores his relationship with other people and the hardship and happiness we find.

As an artist and political scientist he has directed and produced differing projects, like a filmmusic orchestra, pop festivals, and theatre performances. Music generally plays a quite important role.

Sven started exploring the possibilities of film within the walls of theatre, with performances where the audience is encouraged (or forced) to take the position of the other person, the unknown stranger.

Recently Sven travelled to West-African Mali for research. Based on his experiences he directed a documentary film and a site specific theatre performance both titled REplace. These focus on the question how he -or we as Western people- relate to African labour migrants risking their lives on tiny boats.

In the nearby future Sven will explore how people live under circumstances of political or social oppression. This can be considered as a continuation of his research journey to Iran in 2005, his interest in Chinese modern history, and an omnipresent curiosity towards the concept of empathy.

Somewhere in the near future Sven strives to make a sailing trip around the world, starting from the original philosophical idea of cosmopolitanism; that local and global identities must meet and be combined into every person, to collectively live up to the reality that in the end we are all separate and one.
